Operational Stress Injuries (OSIs) are psychological injuries that can develop through exposure to traumatic events, chronic stress, or the demands of service. They can affect how a person thinks, feels, communicates, and functions in everyday life.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is one type of OSI, but not all OSIs are PTSD. An OSI may also include conditions such as anxiety, depression, or other stress-related injuries. Understanding the difference is important, because while the symptoms may vary, the impact on individuals, families, and communities can be significant.
